Ferro Cement
Water Tanks
Ferro-cement is an old technology for constructing storage
tanks either for grain or water. The main raw materials are
heavy gauge mesh wire popularly known as BRC, Chicken wire,
Cement and Sand. The technology can be used to build water
tanks up to 50 cubic metres.
The technology is cheaper compared to ordinary reinforced
concrete, as the final product is thin concrete sections,
approximately 40mm thick.
Why use Ferro-cement Tanks?
- Can build large water tanks, which cannot be bought
from shops due to transportation problem.
- Durable.
- Suitable for rainwater collection and large scale
storage in arid and semi-arid areas.
