Directors Profile
COMAC founders are internationally recognized
as world leading experts in the field of Appropriate Building
Technologies (ABT).
The three founders are trained professionals in Building Construction,
having graduated from Kenya 's Institute's of Technologies,
in the early 80's. They have attended other value adding training
in their careers both technical and managerial. Their summarized
profiles are as follows:
Dr. Solomon Mwangi -Managing Director (MD):
 Dr.
Solomon Mwangi is a leading world expert in the field of Appropriate
Building Technologies (ABT) such as Stabilized soil blocks,
Micro-concrete roofing, Ferro cement, and Rammed earth construction.
He has provided consulting and advisory services in over 20
developing countries in determining the most cost-effective
technologies and materials to use in providing affordable
houses to the low and medium income earners.
Solomon has also a wealth of experience in management of public
resources, having worked in various management positions such
as Operations Director of ApproTEC for 12years. In his 20years
experience, he has managed projects worth millions of Dollars,
in Action Aid, ITDG and ApproTEC. He has also consulted for
international organizations such as UNHCR, UNICEF, UNCHS,
GTZ and SKAT of Switzerland . His main role in COMAC is advisory,
consulting and management services. He has extensively travelled
in African countries, training building contractors in production
and use of ABT's. Some of the countries he has provided consulting
and training services include; Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia,
Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mozambique, Sudan, South Africa, The
Gambia, Ghana, Egypt, India and The Philippines.
Henry Rugendo - Technical Director (TD):
 Henry
Rugendo the TD of COMAC has 20years experience in Technology
Design and Development. He has experience in quality control
of ABT.
Henry has construction management skills having coordinated
and managed small labour only building contractors in the
rural setting while working for Action Aid.
Henry's main role in COMAC is mainly:
- Technology development.
- Developing training materials.
- Working on basic building designs.
- Working out basic costing and preparing B/Q's.
- Training and skills upgrading for artisans and building
contractors.
COMAC Associates:
COMAC has a database of associates in different
building disciplines. They include Engineers and Technicians
who have expertise in Appropriate Building Technologies.
The database has professionals with management and training
expertise who are seconded or assigned to projects, depending
on the project magnitude and requirements.
